Journal entry by Kelley Romanowski

Got a call this morning that Dad was being discharged, and he could see the oncologist before he left the hospital.

His doctors said 3 months on the blood thinners and they will have him work with the medication management team to discontinue when its time. His body will need to absorb the emboli in his lungs. While he takes the medication he is not at risk of developing further clots.

The adenocarcinoma was small but did involve part of the chest wall. This is the reason they elected to take the whole upper left lobe. He does not need chemo as they do not think it would change the quality of life.  If he were in his 20's this decision would likely be different.  He will be followed by oncology and will have scans every 6 months to ensure there isn't a reoccurance.  He is no longer on dietary restrictions, and off the oxygen.  This was the best possible news to receive.

His care team found pain medication which allows him to rest, finally. He is in good spirits but will need to be extremely cautious until he is off the blood thinners.  He is happy to be back out of the hospital and is grateful for every one of you!  Your calls, texts, emails, cards, and meant so much to him.

He will need good rest for the next couple days, so he is asking that you think kind thoughts, pray, and send positive energy his way, and he will be able to connect with people in a few days.

Before we were departed, he received a special gift for Valentine's Day.
