Back at Home

We made it home last week after being in Houston for a month. It’s so nice being with the kids, family, and friends.  We have been very busy going to the local hospital for appointments and treatments as well as home health.  Since being at home, Mike has had issues with fainting which prompted another visit to the ER.  The staff at the ER said it was due to his low blood pressure when moving and gave him fluids.  They also pointed out that two of his medications may be contributing to his low blood pressure and advised us to discuss this with his primary care physician.

The next day we met with his local oncologist and we felt it was a productive meeting.  Mike has been hospitalized two times since his diagnosis, and we have had to go to the ER several times partly due to low blood pressure and rapid heart beat when moving.  Immediately, the MD prescribed fluids to be administered at home to save us trips to the hospital.  He also discontinued two of his medications that have side effects of low blood pressure.  He spent a lot of time with us and overall was proactive in Mike’s care.  His oncologist also continues to collaborate with the oncologist in Houston.

Mike is finishing his second round of chemo today.  His side effects of chemo have worsened this round, but he continues to be strong willed and motivated.  Mike is eating despite having no appetite and feeling sick.  I wanted to cancel his physical and occupational therapy session yesterday, but Mike said he wanted to participate.   He put in 100% into his treatments.  I’m so proud of him and so thankful that he is willing to put in the work to help him get better.

Please continue with the text messages and phone calls to check in.  We may not answer them due to our crazy life, but we appreciate them and it helps us to stay motivated.
