Mike’s Story

Site created on March 7, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

All updates on Mike’s journey will be posted here.

On Sunday, March 3, Mike was experiencing shortness of breath after working in the morning. He was transported to Methodist hospital in the late afternoon and admitted to the ICU that evening. Tests were done for infections and heart function and he was placed on a BPap to help O2 levels increase. Tests showed an issue with his heart and on Monday, March 3, he was given an echocardiogram which confirmed this.

On Tuesday, March 5, Mike had an angiogram to look at his heart (for those who may not know what this is; it’s a test where dye is injected into the heart to see where blockages exist). The angiogram showed 90% blockage in a main artery of his heart requiring a triple bypass surgery.

On Thursday, March 7, Mike is scheduled for his bypass surgery which should last about 7 hours.

All updates on surgery and recovery will be posted here by Anne, Courtney and Jamie.

Thank you for your support throughout this journey and the road ahead!

He’s HOME!
Today has been a good day. Mike got released from the hospital after a ten day stay and is resting comfortably in his favorite couch-spot with Zara nearby.

He is sore (especially near the incision site in his chest) but glad to be home. He will start cardiac rehab in 2 weeks which will consist of a few visits a week to the hospital, and can begin driving in 4-6 weeks (and maybe resume working at that time, too).

We can’t thank everyone enough for your support and comfort during this scary time for us. Our family was carried through by everyone’s support and Dad felt it every day.

Due to his rockstar-recovery status, this will be our last post. Thanks again to our family, friends and the entire staff at Methodist Hospital who guided us through this journey.

Mike, Anne, Courtney, Jamie, Courtney, Kyle (and Otto too!)
