Site created on January 9, 2020

Max had surgery for a low-grade glioma brain tumor in October of 2019. On January 8, 2020, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). His treatment will continue until April of 2022.  Thank you for your love and support!!

Journal entry by Lindsay Karr

Today marks six months since Max finished treatment. It also means that he is officially off all of the meds, including a prophylactic antibiotic that he has been taking since he was diagnosed.  He continues to have monthly lab checks, and everything looked great at his appointment this week. There is a lot to do post-treatment, including bone density scans, cardiologist visits, and neurocognitive testing. As always, Max is a true champ, smiling and laughing during every appointment. Next month will be three years since his brain surgery. We never take for granted how far he has come; it is amazing to see!

We have been very busy these past six months. Without the concern of fevers or port infection, we were able to travel again! We have enjoyed many trips with family and friends this spring and summer, and we look forward to many more to come, including Max's Make a Wish in Disney World!

Some highlights from the past six months:
- graduation from preschool
- his aunt's wedding
- his 6th birthday
- first MRI WITHOUT sedation, thanks to the Hope for Henry Super Rewards program
- first Red Sox game
- first day of Kindergarten
- The Hope for Henry gala - the event raised more than $1M!
- Max featured as a "Story of Hope" for the feeding tube formula that helped him regain his strength during treatment
- LLS honoring Max on the field at a DC United Game

For all our local friends, please join us at the Rockville Town Center for Light the Night on Saturday, October 15 from 5-9 PM. Max will be honored on stage as a white lantern holder. It is a great time for the entire family, and we hope to see you there!
