Journal entry by Mickey Calnan —
Since I last posted, Mickey has gone through his first round of radiation treatments. His last one of the 10 day treatments was on Monday. He did very well; better than we expected showing none of the adverse effects that were possible at the time. He does have radiation burns that need to be treated with a prescription cream we should be picking up tomorrow. His first signs of hair loss showed up a few days ago. The treatments themselves were very quick. I would barely get settled in the waiting room when I would find him standing next to me waiting to leave! He startled me a couple of times because it was so quick! :D
We are noticing some memory issues now that the treatments are over. He does have a medication to help with this.
We met with his doctor after his last treatment. Mickey is scheduled for an MRI on January 25th to determine where he is at. Then a decision will be made as to whether more radiation is needed or not. He has not started chemotherapy yet. He is scheduled for an appointment with Dr. Gerbara on January 27th. I expect chemo will begin after that.
Mickey is doing well physically and has continued to be quite busy around the house with his projects. His latest is to finish the stairs in the living room going up to the upper floor. We have been living with the rough floors the builders put in since they built the house. He's doing a great job, and they look really nice.
The photo is of Mickey in the doctor's office after his last treatment.
