Journal entry by Michelle Yates

Day 9 post DMX (double mastectomy surgery).

On Thursday, April 20, I went in for my DMX and came home Saturday afternoon.  What a difference a week and a half has made.  So thankful for my family, mother in law and sister for their care so far during this marathon.  We could not have survived the last 2 weeks without all the food, meals, and prayers from our church and coworkers.

Today I was able to empty my drains, wash myself, and get around the house.  I have 2 drains still in place and hope to have them removed at my next plastic surgeon appointment.  I am still on pain meds but now alternating with ibuprofen.

I received my pathology report from the breasts and 12 lymph node removed and biopsies.  Good news the chemo appears to have been effective with the multiple tumors with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and the R breast largest tumor was only 1 cm.  Left breast showed no cancer.  Not so good news, 2 out of 12 lymph nodes removed were positive for cancer.

Now time for healing the next 2 weeks.  Waiting for oncologist appointment on May 11 to know the exact cancer staging and if I will need radiation therapy.

That’s Leo my recovery cat!
