Journal entry by Henry Wagner —
The surgery went well for Michelle. It was about 3 hours long. She had the lumpectomy and the 2 sentinel lymph nodes removed. The pathology testing performed during surgery on those nodes wasnegative for cancer in both nodes (Yay to chemotherapy!). Another Yay! because that means she did not have to have more lymph nodes removed which reduces complications like lymphodema. Of course we will not have the final results for about a week when the full pathology report should be completed on all the tissue removed, but the initial results are very encouraging.
She is resting now and is quite sore and a little nauseous as the numbing that should be there on the right side of her chest is not there completely as it was expected to be and she has not eaten anything real since yesterday evening. An empty stomach = nausea for her at this point thanks to the effects of 5 1/2 months of chemo.
It has been a really long day.
