Journal entry by Michelle Shrader —
To my Amazing Friends & Family,
Yesterday, I had a pet-scan and bloodwork done at Moffitt. I met with my primary oncologist, Dr. Chavis, today. He shared that my bloodwork looked great and that my pet-scan revealed no active cancer at this time. This was such good news. My T-cells are still climbing and will likely take up to a year to get back to where they should be, which is what they expect after CAR-T. T-cells are a type of white blood cell that helps your immune system fight off infection causing bacteria and pathogens.
All this means that as of right now, I am CANCER FREE! He wants to see me every three months ongoing for check ups, but I am so grateful that it looks like I did respond well to the CAR-T treatment. I can't thank all of you enough for all the ways you have stayed with me in this battle to kick cancer! The CAR-T treatment was not easy. I had all the side effects they warn us about and it was really scary to be honest, but with the support of my amazing community and by the GRACE of God, I made it through and I feel strong and have such good energy, which I am so grateful for.
I always try and help people understand a little about how to walk alongside cancer patients. I already know that recovery is another battle. Cancer attacks your body in ways that take time to return from. I know I have to pace myself, but I am so grateful to have a renewed sense of energy.
Thank you SO much for all the love and support.
I am so very grateful to still be...
With you on this journey,
Michelle
