Journal entry by Michelle Ramsey —
What a fun week this has been! I needed to get my mind off of what’s to come and these trips were perfect. Since the beginning of my diagnosis I’ve stressed to my doctors that I want quality in this life I have left. After so many canceled trips, I was finally able to get just that. Even though it was a quick trip to Louisiana, my nieces will truly never know how much that time has meant to me.
Then, my dear sweet Natalie agreed to take the rest of the road trip to Rosemary Beach, Fl. I just wanted to put my feet in the beautiful sand and feel the beach breeze: mission accomplished plus much more. Definitely an unforgettable trip.
Now I’m back home getting ready to fight once again. Before I left for my trip, I got the call from the Neurologist confirming I have Leptomeningeal Disease (cancer in my spinal fluid that runs near your brain). As I’ve said in my previous post, it’s not a good prognosis. My oncologist nor my neurologist have ever seen this in a patient whose original cancer was cervical and in fact there are only 24 cases in history.
Last week I met the radiation oncologist where he provided two options: whole brain radiation or spine/brain proton radiation. These are not a cure as there is not one but they will reduce later symptoms such as paralysis and seizures. Which falls in line with my hope for quality during the time I have. On Tuesday I will start spine/brain proton radiation for two weeks.
As always, I am so thankful for everyone’s support. The other day during one of my Md Anderson therapy sessions the social worker asked me about my legacy. I told her I was proud that throughout my life I’ve surrounded myself with so many amazing, self-less people.
