Newest Update

Journal entry by Makenzie Reichelt

I’m finally getting around to posting an over due update on how Michael’s recovery is going. Since coming home exactly one month ago (1/19), Michael has continued to recovery much faster than expected and is nearly back to baseline. He’s able to move around independently while wearing his c-collar. Today (2/19) he completed his last speech therapy session where he was working on cognition, memory, and attention. He’s still going to physical therapy twice a week for dizziness and shoulder pain. This week we are meeting with the orthopedic team and he will likely get an MRI.

The neurosurgeon said his recovery is miraculous and he wasn’t expecting him to ever wake up based on the extent and severity of his injuries. We will follow up with them again in a couple weeks to reassess the cervical fractures and ligament strain in his neck. Hopefully he will be cleared from the c-collar then. We’re unsure of his return to work date at this time.

We still have a long road ahead of us but there is an end in sight. We are beyond grateful for the thoughts, prayers, assistance, and donations from friends, family, neighbors, and strangers. We truly couldn’t have made it this far without all the love and support.

Thank you!
