Michael’s Story

Site created on June 11, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We will use it to keep updates for family and friends in one place.

Mike was unexpectedly diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, in December 2012.  After many ups and downs Mike underwent a successful stem cell transplant in Rochester at Mayo Clinic in September 2013.  His post-transplant remission lasted until early 2018 when his energy level plummeted as his myeloma labs began to trend upward.  In June 2018 he  started treatment with IV Darzalex, one of the newest myeloma treatments.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Nancy Ray

It’s been over a year since our last entry...Mike continues treatment with IV Darzalex and oral Pomalyst each month and his hematologist says this plan won’t change until the treatment stops working or side effects become more than he can manage.  His labs are stable but he gets tired out and has less endurance than he did a year ago.

We keep busy....June brought the Ray Family Reunion at Kamp Kenwood in Chippewa Falls, WI, where nine of twelve Ray siblings and their families gathered.  Next came salmon fishing in Kewaunee, WI, during June and July. August found us camping in several northern Minnesota State Parks with daughter Salena, sil Brent and grands Zach, Ella and Damien.  In November we traveled to Las Vegas, NV, and Cave Creek, AZ, where we spent time with sister Julie and her family.

We are looking forward to Christmas with our family and are prepared to shovel and blow the snow.
