Journal

I know it's been a while since we have posted, we have kind of fell I to a routine with Michael's immunotherapy treatments.  The immunotherapy was a 24/7 continuous IV drip for 28 days straight with 14 days off.  At the start of each round he was admitted to the hospital, each time he would have some of the same neurological symptoms, some confusion (although that was less and less each round), headaches, fever, and chills.  They would pause the meds briefly then restart him quickly after symptoms cleared.  He would spend 2 days in the hospital then we would go back for regular checkups, blood work, and iv bag changes through the cycle.  He wasn't able to drive at all during the time he was on this medicine.  He just completed his 4th and final round yesterday and a bone marrow biopsy was completed 1 week ago.  Today we went back to see the doctor in Omaha and he advised us they ran a super sensitive test on his biopsy that is able to detect down to 0.0098% of cancer and they were unable to find any cancer cells in Michael's sample!!!!  HE IS IN DEEP REMISSION!  The plan now is to finish 4 more rounds of chemo and then he is on to maintenance treatments for 3 years.  The maintenance will consist of weekly chemo pills and a monthly iv chemo outpatient.  As long as everything continues this way a bone marrow transplant is OFF THE TABLE! He is well on his way to hearing he has beat this and we are looking forward to seeing him get through some of this and get back to his normal life of being a young man!
