Newest Update

Journal entry by Mahrya Mirante

Hello! I wanted to give you all an update on Mike. He has had two rounds of chemo in the hospital. The good news is he is responding to the chemo, so he is still on track for the more intense chemo and bone marrow transplant. Mike just got out of the hospital on Tuesday and then we turned right back around and had to be in Sacramento bright and early for another infusion and a spinal tap. After the first round, some of his symptoms subsided and he is able to eat a little more. He still has daily headaches, earaches pain in his bones. He also has some motor issues and has a little drooping in his face we believe is caused by the tumors in his brain stem.  He started losing his hair again so they shaved it in the hospital.  He is also having issues still with walking. He has constant migraines too. He had a spinal tap done, which revealed there is lymphoma in the spine as well. The oncologist gave him a different regimen of chemo drugs this last stay in the hospital to try to combat the chemo in his brain. This round has more side effects and he ended up needing a blood transfusion that delayed things in the hospital. It also caused issues with his kidney function so he was in the hospital for about a week. He is very tired and nauseated. His blood counts are very low so he is at risk of infection. We have been going every other day to Sacramento to get blood work, fluids, and whatever else they believe he needs. We have been staying at Mike's parent's house in Fairfield to go to these appointments. Unfortunately, this means I am unable to work at this time. We want to thank everyone for all of the monetary donations, lovely dinners (this has been a lifesaver), gift cards, prayers, meditations, and good thoughts. I have said it before but will say it again, we could not do this without out all of your support.
