Michael’s Story

Site created on October 18, 2017

Welcome to my CaringBridge page. I created it to keep everyone updated on my progress.

FAQ:
On 9 Oct 2017, I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer (adenocarcenoma).
A few days later, it was determined to be stage 2 (T3aN0M0) and located in a pretty "crappy" spot.
This is cancer that will be cured.

Journal entry by Michael Lustfield

I meant to write more regular updates, but pain meds and distractions kept me from ever finishing the posts. I apologize if anyone felt left in the dark!

Overall, recovery has been slow but steady progress... with many ups and downs. I'm finally able to move relatively normal and a majority of the pain from the surgery is gone. The hardest thing to do at this point is sit. Even that's starting to become tolerable for periods of time. I'm doing well enough that I'm finally discussing returning to work, in a week or two! If anyone is curious, no, I will not miss sitting around at home. I'm very eager to rejoin the work force!

My next appointment is this coming Monday; it's time to remove my port! As far as I'm concerned, the port placement surgery was the end of diagnosis and the start of treatment. In fact, my first round of chemo started only a few hours after that surgery started. For me, the removal will mark the end of treatment and the start of maintenance.

With the end of treatment being so close, this will likely be my last post. Hopefully, it'll be the last time I ever post on caring bridge. I have check-ups for the rest of my life to help make sure I remain cancer free and (currently) an excellent team in case I ever find a reason to post again.

To everyone that helped me, visited me, or just said something kind at some point- Thank-you!
