So, an update about Michael…
Two weeks ago, Mike woke up shortly before 7am speaking gibberish trying to tell me something. He gave up and laid down, and immediately began snoring, but it was the snoring that I recognized as possibly a type of breathing that isn’t real breathing but the kind of breathing that is just keeping your body alive (it’s what happened with at least two of his grand mal seizures). I sat up and shook him awake, and saw that he was clammy and drenched in sweat. There were are few other things that just felt off, and so I called his doctor who had me take him in to the Emergency Room. We all genuinely thought it was a minor seizure, which was seemly confirmed by him remembering that he had forgotten to take his evening meds the night before, which included a dose of his anti-convulsant, but we went to the ER because of some of the weirdness that could have been neurological.
Didn't share much about it at the time, because while it was weird, he was fine.
Well. It turns out that his internal heart monitor that was implanted after his first seizure caught that what happened (either instead of a seizure or because of a seizure, who knows, really) was that his heart "paused" for 23 seconds.
Which is a significant period of time. His heart monitor throws an alert for a pause of 3 seconds. His was 23.
The cardiologist just got the monthly report this morning and saw the incident, and was concerned enough about the severity of what happened that he has scheduled Mike to have a pacemaker implanted next Tuesday.
It's an outpatient procedure (probably, you know?) with twilight sedation…so that’s a plus.
We’re thankful we caught it and that this is a relatively easy fix.
So, pray for Mike.
Love ya all!
