Newest Update

Journal entry by nancy burns

Haven't updated in awhile. Things at home are going smoothly. Michael has had his follow up appointments with the cardiologist & nephrologist in mpls, and has had evaluation appointments at an outpatient rehab center in Burnsville for OT & PT. His heart is doing great so they took him off amiodorone. He wore a heart monitor for the last week that we'll mail in today that will look for any irregular heart beats, particularly changes when he's sleeping. His hemoglobin has risen from 6.7 to 9.1, which is good but not where they want it but can take time. They'll continue to check it to determine if they'll need to take any action. His gfr (kidneys) has also risen, but like the hemoglobin is not as high as they want it. They don't act concerned yet, they insist that it takes the body a long time to recover from an illness like this. He's got an appointment with a primary physician this coming week, a medication management team for blood pressure meds in February, and then follow ups with the cardiologist and nephrologist in March and May. After his therapy evaluation appointment yesterday he came home with a 3 page list of his physical and occupational therapy appointments. Basically twice a week until early April! We're working on our schedules to get him there between John & I, and Becky helping out in my daycare MORE THAN EVER we've got most of it covered. I'm blessed with very understanding daycare families that put up with me needing to open late, close early, or close completely once in awhile. That helps tremendously with the stress of all of this. And knowing how much support and love we have is what has gotten us through this.
