Journal entry by Amy Shoemaker —
Well - Micah is six months old! He is just shy of 20 lbs, and is 27” tall. He is rolling, sitting up, scooting, bouncing, pushing up to all fours, and has crawled enough times for us to construct a giant play pen in our living room.
He also started solid foods - more playing than eating at this point. Cucumber sticks and mashed potatoes are favorites so far.
Micah’s parents are a little worse for wear. The grief of losing my mom overwhelms us a lot of the time and adds complexity to our trauma recovery.
I am in a complicated process of recovering physically, mentally and emotionally from the trauma and injuries I experienced at the hospital. I am in almost constant physical pain.
I haven’t been able to do physical therapy because of my PTSD.
Micah is thriving. Carly and I continue to struggle.
We are so thankful for all of the support we have - Childcare volunteers, hand me down clothes/toys/car seats, family visiting from out of town, continued prayer on our behalf, and so much more. You all are truly amazing. Thank you!
