Mesa had been having anemia and GI problems and was expected to undergo a procedure on 12/12/2018 to find out what was causing her abdominal pain. On 12/11/2018 her labs came back with abnormal blood cells and we were instructed to go to the ER; that’s when everything changed. Today on 12/12/2018, Mesa was confirmed to have Acute Myeloid Lukemia and we are told it is very treatable. Today Mesa will under go a GI exploratory procedure to hopefully figure out that part of the puzzle.  Additionally, they will be doing a spinal tap and a bone marrow biopsy to determine the best chemo treatment for her. Lastly, they will put in a chest port so she can begin her chemo soon. She is expected to be in the hospital for about 1 month initially; the entire treatment lasts about 6 months. Healthy visitors are welcome, but no flowers or plants are allowed on the floor. We are at Cardons Children’s Hospital. We will let you know how the procedures go.
