Two day ago, Melissa had her first oncology appointment at Mayo. Her cancer is adenosarcoma. This is the same type of cancer that was present in the endometrial mass that was removed in January. It is not showing to be super aggressive. The doctor does not want to subject her to chemotherapy and surgery this close to her last surgery due to the fact that her body is still recovering. Therefore, they have opted for endocrine therapy. She will take one tablet daily of an estrogen blocker. The problem is, she was prescribed an estrogen blocker right after her surgery to try to prevent the cancer that has shown up. She had a very bad side effect. The pill caused her to be in a severe amount of pain throughout her body. She could not function well at all. They stopped the medication and most of the pain went away. The worry now is that this new medication (which is in the same family as the first) will have the same effect on her. This med will not take the cancer away. It is being used to simply keep the cancer from growing and spreading. The hope is, once her body heals more, they will be able to get a little more aggressive with it. Possibly surgery and radiation/chemo. At this time, hopes are very high. She will have new scans in three months to make certain that the cancer has not spread. I will update everyone with any news that we receive. Please continue praying and sending positive thoughts. We greatly appreciate everything and everyone that has reached out to offer well wishes and words of encouragement.
