Journal entry by Maggie Irmiter —
Its been over a month since the last update. Melissa is currently almost half way through her treatment but its been a rollercoaster of symptoms and hospital stays. As they increase her chemo, she experiences new symptoms. They increased her chemo during her last hospitalization and with that, her white blood cell count plummeted to virtually undetectable. This puts her at great risk of infection so she is currently quarantined at home waiting for her counts to increase. She continues to experience extreme fatigue which is frustrating for her but she is trying to maintain a positive outlook and appreciates her "good" days. In the absence of the "right" words to say, the emotional support she has receives is so meaningful to her during this time. Hopefully her medical team has found the threshold for her chemo and her symptoms can be better predicted and managed. One of the hardest things for her is not knowing what is normal and what's not. As she has experienced new symptoms and is told the origin, she feels more reassurance.
