Newest Update

Journal entry by Melanie Nickels

I've now been  back in the salon for 2 weeks and it feels good to be getting into some of my normal routine....much lighter schedule than usual, but it has been great to see everyone and fun to work some hair magic!  Thank you to all who have been so understanding and supportive through this.

I saw my orthopedic doctor Mon and he decided we needed to do an injection of cortizone in my right shoulder as it has still been giving me some pain, stiffness, and lack of mobility.  For whatever reason, the left shoulder has had no issues, but the right one was freezing up which was causing the problems.  He and my physical therapist said I was going to be sore later that day and the next due to the shot and because they really worked me harder on moving and stretching.  Surprise, Surprise,......Never felt better!!  That must have been exactly what I needed because all the pain is gone, movement is great, I've worked all week and have been fine.  Dr. Podesta says tendons are healed so now we can push more to get strength back.   Music to my ears!

I will continue a few more sessions of PT and then should be able to do the necessary exercises on my own.  For now I am also keeping a modified schedule until I get my endurance back.  Been very odd to actually feel tired.  Not used to that.

The BIG NEWS is that for those who don't already know, unfortunately, Jessica will be leaving us after next week.  Her husband got a job offer in IL that was too good to pass up.  I have been preparing for her to be gone on their trip to Ireland, but I was not prepared for her to never return after that.  As I'm sure you all are aware, we have become very close over the past 3.5 years that she has worked with me!  We have had so much fun together and her joyful presence will be greatly missed!!!  We do however, wish them all the best on this new endeavor.   It will be fun sending socks and shovels and all the things they will need going back to the freezing Midwest.

That's all the updates for now.  Got to get some rest to get ready for my day tomorrow,
