Megan’s Story

Site created on May 2, 2019

Welcome to Megan's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. She appreciates your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

For the last several months, Megan has been experiencing night sweats (which she thought might have been hormone-related or the start of early menopause) and noticed  a suspicious lump on her left breast. These symptoms prompted a visit to her doctor.  After a physical exam along with multiple mammograms and other imaging, it became pretty clear that the suspicious lump was cancer and it needed to be biopsied. Megan was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma earlier this week. She will be meeting with her care team Friday, May 3 to determine the next step.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Megan Woods

I am feeling MUCH better than a week ago! I had my one week post-surgical appointment today. I will still be on tight restrictions for another week and can then slowly try to do more things each day. My surgeon says I will be done with restrictions toward the end of August and can go back to work!! I am so incredibly happy and excited to be able to teach again, however it will look during this crazy time!

Another super-exciting update: a couple of weeks ago, my oncologist switched me to a new medicine for my awful neuropathy, and it has been working so well! Wow! Is this ever a blessing!!! There are some side effects to deal with, but I can feel my hands and arms again!!!!!

I hear stories of so many who have lost the fight to breast cancer, and I feel so blessed! I know I have had it easy compared to so many❤️

Take care,

Megan
