GREAT NEWS!

I was accepted to MD Anderson in Houston! I have an appointment at the end of May to meet with a Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncologist. This is some of the best news we could have gotten. MD Anderson is doing a lot of research on late stage colon cancer in women under 50. Through mutual friends I know some women who have gone through treatment there and they are doing so well now. When I was first diagnosed, surgery was a “pie in the sky” treatment. My oncologist was so hesitant to even mention it because when you have cancer in your liver, which I do, there’s almost no way to get rid of it. That still may be the case, but if we can get most of the cancer out, I may be able to be on maintenance meds instead of active chemo. Again, this is still a long shot and until we meet with the surgeon in Houston, we know nothing. But I’m optimistic there may be more good news because I don’t think a surgeon would meet with me if surgery is totally out of the question.

The day after we got news from MD Anderson, I met with my oncologist about my platelet levels. If you read my last post, you’ll know my platelets are low and I’m having some gynecological issues due to low platelets. His solution to that for now is to take one of my chemo infusions out of my next appointment to try to get blood levels up. The infusion we are not doing is the one that gives me nerve/cold sensitivity. So that’s excellent news…I hate that infusion. This means I can keep eating ice cream and drinking cold water!! Hooray!! (It’s the small stuff, haha)

So Blake and I are going to Houston for the last week of May. The girls will stay home with Nonnie (grandma Connie) since this visit is mostly appointments and it’s short-ish. We have a place to stay and a car to use and if we have friends in Houston that are around that week, we’d love to try to meet up! I don’t know my full schedule with MD Anderson yet, so we can’t make solid plans for a bit, but once we know more about our schedule we can make plans. I tell you what, I’m so excited for some Whataburger, Mexican Food and Texas BBQ…it’s been many years since I’ve been back to Texas!

I did also want to post our Go Fund Me Page. I haven’t posted it in a while, but now that we’re traveling and going to a bigger, fancier hospital, it might be a good time to put it up again. So many of you have made generous gifts already and we are so grateful. It has helped us pay bills, feed our family and has covered basic expenses when I can’t work a full-time schedule for appointments or illness. If you feel inclined to support our travel and ongoing medical stuff, thank you. If not, your continued prayers, good vibes, messages, cards and calls mean more to me than you can know. I feel the community around us that spans the globe and I am humbled. Thank you for everything 💕
