Journal

Dear friends,

As you may remember, Meesh had two wishes when she learned she was terminal with cancer: to take her kids to Disney world, and to finish her degree at UT.

Last November she took her kids to Orlando for 6 full days of parks. She accomplished her goal with gusto, on a scooter since her energy levels could not match the intensity of hiking through the parks. Her tenacious spirit did more than most people without medical issues!

Yet her final two college classes could not be completed due to her pain levels and various medical interruptions. They were not pertinent to her actual degree in neuroscience (pre-med), and UT informed us that she has been awarded her degree posthumously!

On Saturday, October 1st, we gathered at The Oasis and celebrated her graduation, class of 2022! Ryan and Elijah provided musical entertainment. Her children spoke about what they learned from Mom in regards to education.  Her best friend and classmate Mandy spoke, and offered the toast at Sunset. I'm including photos and videos of the night, so you can celebrate with us.

Here are a couple of comments the family received from Dr. Michael Drew, the associate dean of the Natural Sciences dept. of UT regarding Meesh:

"Please let the kids know that their mom was an excellent student who worked hard to earn this diploma, and she was liked and admired by her neuroscience professors. We are proud to consider her a Longhorn."

"Please let the family, and especially her children, know how proud we are to have had Meesh as part of our CNS and Neuroscience community and, now, as an alumna. She is remembered by her professors and fellow students and is missed. Perhaps Meesh's children will someday be interested in becoming Longhorns; if so please reach out because I'd be happy to give them a tour and discuss what we have to offer."

It's hard to believe it's been 6 months since her passing. She created quite the legacy in her life. We're so proud of you, Meesh!
