Journal

Today I am grateful for healthcare and healthcare advancement.

Our last update was in December and man have things changed!

We added a new addition to the family in February, Mayven let’s him know daily that she is still the boss of the house. She would remind Becca but Becca is a very smart kid and already knows 😂

Health wise Mayven is killing it. Our kid is a damn rockstar.

Pulmonary:
We just had an appointment today and Mayven is officially on cpap! Hopefully within the next few months we will be off the vent during the day and then make our way to being off the vent 24/7. It’s a huge step and I never thought we would get to this point but Mayven continues to prove us wrong on the daily and we love it.

GI/Feeds:
We had a swallow study a couple of weeks ago and we passed. Mayven is able to have liquids without thickening it. We love our purée foods and are trying very hard to advance to “bigger” kid food but we are just having a harder time getting there. But from not wanting to have anything in her mouth to know eating 8 ounces of purée food, we will take what we get!

Vision:
Mayven has had a lazy eye since she was in the NICU so we have been patching her left eye to strengthen her right. We are now patching 3 times a week or when we really see her eye drifting. We also got glasses. The doctor said with her history of being a micro premie and a family history of poor vision it was almost going to be a given that she would need them. She does great with them, besides when we are in the car. She has lost her privileges of wearing them in car rides for there are a few scratch marks from when Mayven was feeling hungry and thought that her glasses sounded pretty good.

PT/OT/ST
We are so close to walking but Mayven absolutely does not want to walk unless if she has a hold of someone or something. Besides that the kid gets into EVERYTHING. Just like a regular toddler but with a few extra medical supplies sprinkled in there.
We are also starting speech therapy that is more directed toward speech. We were mostly focused on feeding but Mayven has been doing well and we don’t want to focus on one thing for too long and let other skills slide. We have the most amazing team working with Mayven they are practically family.

As always thank you for everyone that has every thought of Mayven, prayed for her, or sent her good vibes. She is truly our miracle.

A huge thank you to the Drs, nurses, respiratory therapist, NP, OT, PT, ST and anyone else that has blessed Mayven’s life.  Without you we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Love,
The Theisen’s
