WEST LAFAYETTE – Max A. Johnson, 80, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on February 12, 1941, in Indianapolis to the late Francis and Mabel (McCullum) Johnson. He grew up in Speedway, Indiana. He married Susannah (Fitch) Johnson September 4, 1967, and she survives. 

He completed his Journeyman Machinist apprenticeship at Diamond Chain in Indianapolis and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He worked for Allison Division of GM, Fairfield Mfg., Round Grove Machine, and eventually he and his wife started their own business, Johnson Precision Machine, Inc., in 1982. He loved working with his hands and with computers. In 1993 the business was sold to Kirby Risk Inc. and is now called Kirby Risk Precision Machining. 

He truly enjoyed the outdoors - fishing, camping, golfing and trap shooting were all things he loved to do.

Max is survived by his wife; two sons, Bret (Jeannine) Johnson of Cary, NC and Bart (Beth) Johnson of Laguna Beach, CA; and three grandchildren, Kristina Johnson, Kimberly Johnson and Piper Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on September 4, 2021 at Evangelical Covenant Church in Lafayette, IN, at 2:00 pm with a memorial service at 3:00 pm. A meal will follow, and visitation can continue during the meal.
