Maverick’s Story

Site created on January 27, 2022

We are so thrilled to welcome sweet Baby Maverick to our family! He is such a precious joy! When we were 20 weeks pregnant, Maverick was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot. It is a congenital heart defect comprising of four defects. This was so unexpected and frightening but we learned a lot about it and have had a lot of support, especially from AI Dupont. At about 27 weeks, Maverick was also diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The Lord has been caring for us greatly as we have adjusted to all of this difficult news. On Sunday, January 23rd at 10:38 a.m.,  our sweet baby boy arrived at 36 weeks! He immediately stole our hearts! The plan had been to deliver him at AI Dupont Chikdren's Hospital so he could immediately go to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. He had different plans and was coming too quickly so he was delivered at Kent General and within hours they had him on a neonatal transport to AI.  Daddy was able to follow a couple hours behind . I was released within 12 hours and joined them that night. Maverick will be continually monitored and will need open heart surgery. The timing is undecided. Mariah, Kirsten, and Colby are doing well and staying with my dad in Milford. After the first week, BrIan will be going back to work and coming up on the weekends with the kids at a hotel. Covid does not allow them to stay at the hospital or even visit. They are super anxious to meet their baby brother Maverick! We will keep you all updated!  Please do not feel ignored if we are not able to respond to messages and phone calls as we care for him! However, we really appreciate all your support and prayers!

Journal entry by Megan Todd

The cath went great! His stenosis was more mild than the echo had shown, probably bc of fussyness! No open heart surgery!  Now we just wait to see if his valve grows with him!

They are going to keep us overnight just to monitor him after anesthesia since he was a preemie hey, just got off oxygen and has lower tone in his airways. Thank you thank you for all the prayers!
