Maverick’s Story

Site created on March 20, 2023

Friends and Family,

On behalf of Camile and Maverick's family, we are grateful to have you here, reading and learning more about sweet Maverick's story. Maverick McClay was born on November 24th, 2020, and was two and a half years old when he took his last breath in his sleep on Friday, March 17th, 2023. Maverick was and is, truthfully, the most special boy with a spirit that left a lasting impact on everyone he met. With his love winks and pure spirit, he made everyone he met feel loved and seen.

Very recently (6 days before we lost him) Maverick was diagnosed with Kabuki which is a congenital disorder that affects physical and mental development. Camile has put up the good fight for her son: bringing Maverick to many, many appointments all over Minnesota for an entire year, before they finally were sent to a geneticist that was able to give them their long awaited-for answers. It has been a very sad, but also powerful missing piece to the puzzle- especially in this new era of grieving our sweet Mav. We have been assured that Maverick passed peacefully, with no sign of struggle or pain. Our family finds a lot of comfort in this. It's almost as if angels swooped him right up in his sleep and brought him to his eternal home- the one we are all awaiting. We are recognizing the undeniable role our Lord has played in Maverick's earth-side departure, and we know his sweet and resilient spirit surrounds us until we are, too, called home.

We plan to do an intimate and small celebration of life where we honor his time here on earth.

We thank you personally for taking the time to read about Maverick's story, and are touched by the outpouring of love we have received from our community. If you feel called to show support for Camile and family, please reach out directly to Courtney Montero or Cari Ramsey for her address where offerings of your condolences are welcomed. In the near future, we will update this Caring Bridge site with options to donate to a specific cause, selected by Camile, in his name.

We ask that you do not be afraid to approach Camile and family, and to please, share your memories with us. We, as a family, plan to do great things in his name and keep his one-of-a-kind spirit alive, always.
