Maureen’s Story

Site created on October 10, 2020

My story begins as a youth in Richfield, MN and then living in many states (Georgia, Texas, Indiana) throughout my growing up years due to my father being in the US Army. I met my groom Fred as a sophomore at Shortridge High School (Indianapolis, IN), and we were married September 1964. Our son Eric, resides in Western NY with his wife Sarah. Our daughter Christine lives here in MN with her husband Brian. We are blessed with 4 grandchildren; Eric's children, Devon 28, Haley 25, and Christine's sons, Brandon 22 and Tyler 19.  My most prized title of "Grandma" reflects my love of spending time with each of them.  Sports, music, school activities are all cherished memories with the grandchildren.

I have been gifted with lifelong friends that date back to my earliest days in NJ, IN, MN, and many more states as my personal circle grew over the years.

I began making draperies at home when I was living in New Jersey with Fred and Eric. I opened my own business called Kustom Window Fashions during the 13 years we called Indiana home. When we moved to MN in 1982, I continued my business, joined IFDA, and changed my business name to Maureen Olofson Interior Design.  I loved my 35+ year independent and entrepreneurial career, and I cherish the dear friendships made with my clients and professional friends.

My hobbies include gardening, feeding the birds, making fleece scarves/mittens, etc. for the Pax Christi Church winter drive.  I love all things that are family-related and truly enjoyed organizing a Rogers-O'Brien 2015 family reunion that resulted in 111 attendees complete with butterfly release and bagpiper! I fondly remember my time on the Arts Campus & Gardens Council, including sharing my love for gardening by securing new soil to toil in at the Pax Christi Church Butterfly Garden.  Additional volunteer activities I was blessed with being a part of include Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Feed My Starving Children, and Bridging.

My faith has taught me to "be kind to everyone" and appreciate the positive in all situations.  Love one another as Jesus would...
