Journal entry by Meg McQuillan —
The cover of Matt's memorial service program featured this quote from Angels in America:
"We won't die secret deaths anymore. The world only spins forward. We will be citizens. The time has come. Bye now. You are fabulous creatures, each and every one. And I bless you: More Life. The Great Work Begins."
The service and the celebration of life were magical, tearful, love-filled and heartbreaking. Deep gratitude to everyone who attended and to those who were there in spirit.
And now....? What to do with our grief and heartache?
We can remain united in our commitment to Hilda and the kids. Helping. Listening. Hugging. Remembering. This community can teach Sonja, Rosko and Levi so much about their amazingly special father.
We have set up an email account which we hope each person reading this will use to share stories, videos, photos, sound files--anything you would like to share about Matt for the benefit of the kids. In a year or so, Matt's dear friend David Wheir will shape everything you've sent into something like a digital book to give to the kids. Write the address down on a post-it and whenever you think of a great Matt story, or come across a perfect picture of him, shoot it off in an email. These can be geared for their ages now, or for their future selves. Please please send anything and everything to: cantstopthemattness@gmail.com
The Meal Train has been such an incredible lifeline for the family. Thank you all so much for cooking and ordering and donating. As Hilda returns to work, more dates have been added to the calendar. If you would like to help, please sign up here: https://mealtrain.com/dwy766
Once again, thank you. The collective love for Matt burned so brightly all weekend. Flights of friends and family sang him to his rest.
Please stay in touch and keep Hilda and the kids in your prayers and meditations. Please also remember Matt's mother, Barrie. Your love has eased their burden throughout this sad time.
