Journal entry by Melissa Roberts —
I figured I would start this as an easy way to update everyone on Matt's journey.
Matt was taken to the hospital in Carroll on Sunday. He has a severe ear infection and it had got worse over the weekend. The doctors confirmed Sunday that he has meningitis. Matt was flown to Omaha by helicopter to get the care that he needed that the hospital in Carroll was not equipped to provide.
Matt was very sick Sunday. He did not know where he was and was unable to communicate. When they made the decision to transport him to Omaha, the decided to sedate him and they needed to intubate him. At that time, we thought it was just for transport. Once he arrived in Omaha, it was decided to keep him sedated as he would need more tests and possible surgery. As of today, Monday, he is still sedated.
He is on IV antibiotics to help heal this, and we are staying hopeful that this treatment is what he needs to recover from this.
I will update as more information becomes available.
Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He is stubborn, but he is strong, and he will get through this!
