Newest Update

Journal entry by Rebecca Moix

Can you believe that it has been a year since Matthew received his cancer diagnosis? It's hard to believe that at this time last year he was starting his first chemo treatment, and now he's 6+ months cancer free!

So, if anyone is still reading, I thought this would be the perfect time to do a final update. Wondering what you've missed? Well stay tuned!

In August Matthew had his 6 month check up and received great reports from all of his labs and scans. In fact, his 6 month chest X-ray was even more clear than the 3 month X-Ray which means that dead cancer cells are continuing to slough off! He will continue to have monthly labs at the clinic here in NWA, with additional X-Rays at 9 and 12 months. The next big milestone Matthew is waiting on is February 18th when he will be one year cancer free! At that point his port should be removed. He will then continue to be monitored for the next 2 years, but those appointments will be less frequent, and we don't know exactly the schedule for those.

As a family we celebrated Matthew being 6 months cancer free with our own bell ringing ceremony. Due to Covid, he was unable to have an end of treatment party at ACH, so we made sure to celebrate him in style! We'd like to thank everyone who was able to participate in a socially distanced manner by driving by to send their well wishes!

Matthew started his senior year at Ozark Catholic Academy in August, and has been busy with school and basketball ever since. Unfortunately at the beginning of the month Matthew tested positive for Covid. Thankfully he experienced minor symptoms (small headache and some congestion), but is now in the clear! The oncologist wanted to run an EKG after his quarantine to  ensure there were no issues, and after receiving a clean bill of health he was cleared to return to school and basketball!

Well there you have it! I'm happy to report that a year later the Moix family has (mostly) returned to normal. I also want to express a final thank you on behalf of the Moix family for the continued prayers and support as Matthew heals. As a gift to Matthew, the siblings assembled a photo album to commemorate his journey. It was abundantly clear as we looked back through those photos and reflected on memories made that Matthew, Ed, and Nita had a community of people lifting them up in prayer and fighting the battle alongside Matthew throughout every step of the process. I truly believe that you were all instrumental in Matthew's battle to beat cancer, and want you to know that words can't truly express how much it meant to our family.

With all our love,

Rebecca and The Moix Family
