Matt’s Story

Site created on August 16, 2018

On August 14, 2018 Matt was injured at work and suffered a fractured skull and an epidural brain bleed. Surgery was performed upon arrival at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to stop the bleed and assess the damage. Further CT scans revealed one primary bleed on the left hemisphere of his brain and two smaller contusions to the right hemisphere that they continue to monitor closely. Matt's family appreciates all of the prayers and hopes you will check back for future updates on his road to recovery. If you would like to help with expenses, please consider contributing to this PayPal pool to help with accommodations, meals and gas for trips back and forth to be with him.

Journal entry by Abby Burke

"You're only a day away."

Tomorrow is the day y'all! After 45 days of uncertainty, pain, obstacles, healing, prayers, rehabilitation and a TON of determination, Matt Burke is headed home...FOR GOOD! Please pray for a great last day at Pathways, a safe trip home and an easy transition back into life for Matt. He has come so far in the last month and a half from the very bruised and scraped up unresponsive 23 year old that we first saw when we rushed to Georgia after we heard the news and he had his surgery. I don't know why bad things happen to good people, but I do know that through the bad our God is still faithful and capable of miracles beyond our wildest dreams. Matt visited with his friend from inpatient who was such an encouragement to he and Mrs. Sharon on some tough days and also had a great dinner with his Mama tonight. His therapies went well, as usual, and Matt showed out in the pool...again. Thank you for the army of prayers, the financial contributions and the love you've sent to Matt and his family. "My oh my what a wonderful day."
