Hope Can Be the Key

By: Porter Thomas

I believe that hope helps everyone and I believe this because right now my dad just got home from the hospital. When I first heard that my dad was in the hospital I was camping in Utah with my mom. When we got the news, I was scared out of my mind. We stayed the night in Moab and left first thing in the morning. As we were driving home I could not do anything except hope for my dad to survive another day and hope got me far enough for dad to come home. I think that if you can’t do anything to help someone in bad health the best thing you can do is hope and people will hear and listen and the people who can help will hear you and do their best to help and heal your family.

As my dad was switching hospitals, I came home from school and my mom was taking her boyfriend to the doctors because his head was really hurting for the past 10 days and so I went to my friend’s house. My mom never came back that night. In the morning, I asked my friend’s mom what happened and I figured out that David’s (my mom’s boyfriend) brain was bleeding so for the next week my dad and David were both in the hospital at the same time.  Again, all I could do was hope for them both to come home safely.

They both are home now and healthy.  My dad still has some restrictions but David is free.  They are both still recovering but they are doing much better now. I believe that my hope and all my friends’ and family’s hope helped my dad and David get better.  It also helped my mom to know that everyone was hoping for the best for my dad, David, and also me and my mom. We have gone through some pretty hard times recently and everyone is being so supportive for us and helpful. They bring us food and help walk the dog and even vacuum the house so we can focus on the more important things. They are also there if we need to express our emotions.

Hope can help others but it can also help ourselves, too. If we hope that someone is going to get better then that can also be comforting to us too, because if we know that our  hope might help them get better then that feels good. If you can’t be there and you can’t really help with the therapy or anything it feels good to know you are contributing to the healing of your loved one, your family, or your friend. I have been through this and I know it is hard but if you hope it can help you and everyone else around you. Just know that you can get through it and hope is the best thing you can do  for everyone to get better and be happy again. Your family is the most important thing and you should always be there for them even if you can’t be in the room, even if you have to stop playing video-games. Trust me, it will be worth it. I believe that you should always have hope.
