Day 10
Over night Mason got his NG tube out!! Yay! Yesterday he has his MRI completed and this morning he had a VCUG and renal ultrasound. Our little boy did great during all of these tests!
Results
Mason does have a tethered spinal cord and will need surgery around 6 months of his life to repair this.
Both his left and right kidney are getting reflux (urine traveling back up to the kidneys) as well as his ureter (tube connecting kidneys and bladder) are not connected correctly at the bladder. They also located a fistula (where his intestines are connected to his bladder) between his colon and left ureter. The recommended having more tests done with contrast to get clearer images. We’re waiting for urology to come up to discuss options with us. However Masons Dr was leaning towards another surgery to repair this.
We also received the blood results from his newborn screening and Mason has one gene testing positive for cystic fibrosis. They reached out to the genetics lab and are during further testing to see if there is another positive gene. As of now, that classifys him as a carrier which will matter further down the road when he chooses if he wants his own children or not. For now we are awaiting the results from genetics.
A lot of information this morning. I will update as we know more.
