Mason’s Story

Site created on May 29, 2018

On Sunday, May 27th Mason was involved in a boating accident. Mason was in Wisconsin celebrating Memorial Weekend with his family and neighbors. After a day of hanging out on the lake. They were pulling the boat in when suddenly Mason fell into the water behind the boat and got his legs caught in the propellor. Dad saw Mason fall and ran to help pull him out of the water, but Mason already was pulling himself onto the dock. Mason’s legs were badly cut. Dad jumped into action and immediately grabbed a belt to make a tourniquet. He put it around his leg to stop the bleeding. Mason grabbed rope near him and wrapped his own tourniquet around his other leg. After both legs were wrapped, Mason grabbed hold of his tourniquets and screamed “Go Dad, get to the car!” Dad picked up Mason to bring him to the car. Mason held his tourniquets tight as Dad carried him up the hill. 16 year old Ayden jumped to help get Mason up the hill and to the car. Dad and Ayden finally got Mason up the hill and into the car. Neighbor Elvira was already on the phone with 911. She informed them what happened and told Dad they needed to go to Fredric High School. Dad started speeding to the high school with Mason staying strong in the back holding his tourniquets. Mom was in the back of the car with Mason, and on the phone with 911. She told Dad to pull over so the EMT’s could find them to start to help Mason. Dad pulled off the road and started to wave down cars hoping for the EMT’s to see him. The EMT pulled over and immediately requested an emergency helicopter. They put Mason in the ambulance and raced to the high school so the helicopter could land. The helicopter came quickly and brought Mason to North Memorial Hospital. He immediately went into surgery.
