Mary’s Story

Site created on September 27, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Mary Lamar. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

After a fluke fall at their lake house, Mary was life-flighted to Tyler, TX for emergency surgery for a spinal injury on vertebrae C1 & C2.  The surgery was a success. As we navigate the future, we are praying mightily for total healing, & for feeling and function to be restored throughout her body.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Happy Thursday!

We are very happy to tell you all that Mary was safely transferred to TIRR rehab this afternoon! This has been a few weeks coming and we are so excited for this next chapter for Mary. She continues to impress us with the daily strives she makes. The past few days have been filled with check ins from the doctors, occupational & respiratory therapy and visitors for Mary. Thank you to her sweet friends who visited Mary this week & stayed the night at the hospital. We are so appreciative & Mary appreciated it more than you know! Thank you to the Memorial Hermann staff, doctors & nurses who have taken such great care of Mary the past few weeks and who helped her get ready for the transfer to TIRR. We are so thankful. Rehab will be a long & challenging journey but Mary is so ready and we can't wait to continue to watch her progress.

Praise (answered prayer):

  • Mary's safe transfer to TIRR. We are so thankful for the safe transport. Thank you for the staff who made it possible.
  • The continued support & prayers we receive. It means so much to have the support of so many people who know Mary personally and those who don't. Your prayers mean everything.
  • Mary's personality & sense of humor. Despite the difficulties of her injury, Mary has continued to be so invested in the lives of her friends & family and still has her wonderful sense of humor.

Prayers:

  • Prayers for an easy transition into therapy for Mary. She will start with a minimum of 3 hours of therapy, 5 days a week. While rehab will be hard, in the words of Mary "I am so excited, I am so ready & I cannot wait for some structure and routine!"
  • We ask that you lift up the staff, nurses & doctors at TIRR as they take over Mary's care. We can't wait for them to get to know her & her fighting spirit.
  • Prayers for Mary's respiratory ability to get stronger.
  • We continue to pray that the Lord may ease any concerns and anxiety Mary may have during this difficult time.

Thank you all for your continued love and support. We continue to feel so blessed by all the love that everyone is showing for Mary. This weekend will be again filled with football & getting Mary settled. We hope that everyone has a good weekend.

Love,

The Lamar's
