Mary Jo’s Story

Site created on July 27, 2018

Life can be so beautiful, life can be so harsh.

One of the hardest things about learning you have an illness with no cure is figuring out how to tell the people you love.

What do you say? When do you tell them?

On July 5, 2017;  just one day after her wedding anniversary, Mary Jo was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer (metestatic cholangiocarcinoma, metastatic disease in the liver). If you know Mary Jo, you know she is very protective of those she loves. She chose to be private  with regard to her cancer journey, wanting to protect you all from the harsh truth...and she expected to beat this.

Journal entry by Mommy Neils

Our hearts are heavy from the loss of our Mary Jo,
but there was such an outpouring of  love  in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, it touched our souls.
Your kindness lightened our burden.
We are so grateful to all of you.

Perhaps you sent a lovely card,
or sat quietly in a chair.
Perhaps you sent a funeral spray,
if so, we saw it there.
Perhaps you spoke the kindest words,
As any friend could say,
Perhaps you were not there at all,
Just thought of us that day.
Whatever you did to console our hearts,
We thank you so very much,
whatever your part.
Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
