Mary Jane’s Story

Site created on June 19, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website which was suggested as a great way  to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Many of you are aware that my sister, Mary Jane Youngblood Marshall, was diagnosed with breast cancer on May 18, 2018 after a routine mammogram. “This is not the journey we would have chosen, but we know God doesn’t make mistakes in what He allows, and we are committed to finding joy in the journey and seeing God’s blessings along the way.” - Mary Jane.   Some of those blessings have been evident as she prepares for a mastectomy on June 20, which will provide pathology on what stage cancer this might be and any future treatments necessary.  Having trusted God as her Lord and Savior as a  teenager, she is able to have a peace knowing that her future is in the palm of His hands, just like it was when she survived a broken neck  when hit by a car as a pedestrian in 2011. A verse that has encouraged her is Jeremiah 29:11, “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Mary Jane’s tenacious personality has been evident each day, except for when shots are mentioned! Doug, Mary Jane, and the family appreciate your prayers, especially that they would be able to honor God and point people to Jesus through this journey.

Journal entry by Mary Jane Marshall

Dear Precious Friends,
To all of you who have so graciously prayed on my behalf I cannot thank you enough. My navigator just phoned me a few minutes ago telling me that they had received my pathology report back from California. My oncologist wanted her to call me to tell me prior to our meeting on Friday, that the report came back good, which means I will not have to have chemo or radiation, but will need to do the hormone therapy for 5-10 years. She will explain everything at the appointment on Friday but knew that would help relieve our anxious wait.  Doug and I are giving all praise to our loving heavenly Father.
God has heard your prayers and we are so indebted to each of you for those prayers.
My navigator shared this treatment is not without side effects, and it will depend on what I can tolerate, but we know this is still answered prayer over chemo and radiation.
We just want to give Him Praise!
We love and thank you for the blessing you are to us.
Mary Jane and Doug
