Mary Claire’s Story

Site created on August 26, 2023

This is difficult to write because I just want to hide under a rock, but everyone has been so supportive. We will need you all now more than ever! 💛

As many of you know, August 23, 2023, is the day that changed our lives forever. Our precious daughter, Mary Claire, was diagnosed with leukemia. It is heart breaking, and I am still in disbelief. This beautiful, wonderful child that has already been through so much is now facing another major health battle. 5 surgeries in just 5 years of life, two weeks in the hospital feeling terrible - how do you explain that to a child? It’s impossible, but we have been so blessed with all of the love and support we’ve gotten from our friends and family since her diagnosis! Thank you for all the calls and texts, the cards, the toys, the meals, and everything else that has been done for us over the last week! Mary Claire’s eyes light up when she gets things from the people she loves. Please continue to pray for us and check on us throughout this journey. Although it will have to be from afar for the first 6-12 months due to Mary Claire’s compromised immune system, we will need lots of love and support as she undergoes treatment over the next three years. We just have to trust in God and keep the faith. His plan is greater, and we know He will see us through again! 💛

Day 238: Today was our LAST chemo for frontline treatment! We cut it super close because an ANC of 500 is required to move forward, and Mary Claire’s was a 510 😫 Mary Claire has been feeling pretty yuck after the last few treatments, and she started having bad mouth sores on Monday. We thought we were going to have a delay and have to come back Monday, but we made it!
WE ARE NOW IN LONG TERM MAINTENANCE! We will have monthly chemo infusions and take daily oral chemo, but as long as Mary Claire is doing well, she will be able to start getting out of the house soon! Her requests have been seeing her friends and going to a trampoline park 😂.

How can you pray for us? 🙏
We just barely made the threshold for getting chemo today which means Mary Claire’s immune system was already low and then we gave another dose of chemo on top of it so please pray she tolerates it well and doesn’t have any issues! Please pray she doesn’t have any mouth sores this week, and pray her body bounces back quickly so we can enjoy our two weeks at home before starting round 1 of 6 in long term maintenance. Thank you all for the love and support! We are so thankful to be putting the last 8 months of treatment behind us! 🧡🎗️🧡
