Marty (Mary Martha)’s Story

Site created on November 25, 2018

Mom was in a car accident the summer of 2018. Last year they found a tumor in Mom's lung that was believed to be cancerous. They were able to go in and perform an ablation to try to address that tumor.

Unfortunately, we learned that the cancer has continued to grow in Mom's lungs and has also spread to her liver. We did have a biopsy of the liver in February 2020 and confirmed she has non-small cell lung cancer. And it is currently at stage 4. There are no treatments available at this time. We will continue to support mom and keep her comfortable.

We appreciate your thoughts and prayers. We will continue to communicate through this website.  Feel free to send cards.

Journal entry by Jenny Greber

We said goodbye to an amazing woman last night.

I struggle to find the words to adequately convey how wonderful a mother our family was blessed with.

Mom was a powerful woman, a wonderful balance of strength, kindness, compassion, pride, and courage. Throughout her 80 years on this earth, she influenced the lives of countless others, breaking down barriers and always standing up for what she thought was right.
Mom was a proud veteran, serving as a nurse in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After leaving the service, she continued to pursue her passion, dedicating her life to caring for others, not only as a nurse, but also a wife, mother, and friend.

She was the most loving mother and doting grandmother, beaming with love every time she saw her grandchildren.

We can never truly thank her for the life that she spent teaching us to be empathetic, caring, independent, and brave. While we miss her terribly, we're glad that she is free from her suffering and finally reunited with Dad.
