Days 41-46: This week has been an emotional roller coaster......

Heart exam on Monday showed no significant change. The Drs talked with cardiology to see if they felt Marty’s spells might have something to do with his heart condition but after further talks they don’t feel it’s what’s causing them. We will have another exam in two weeks and from there talk with cardiology about long term follow up or potential surgery if needed.

Tuesday was the absolute worst day of our entire NICU stay so far. Code Blue were the words I heard yelled at 9am as I walked into Marty’s NICU room. The words I heard yelled as I was being pulled out of the room away from them bagging Marty to get him to breathe again. As I sat outside his door I watched as person after person ran into his room yelling to grab this and we need that. The minutes seemed like hours when the nurse walked back out and said he was breathing again and everything was going to be okay.

My nurse had told me she was feeding Marty when he started to choke a little which caused him to hold his breath. He ended up taking a couple deep breaths and then completely stopped which is why they needed to bag him and call a code blue. They ran blood work and did a chest X-ray and everything came back normal so the Drs are considering it a choking episode.

The rest of the week went pretty smooth which was nice after the anxiety Tuesday had caused. We’ve been slowly working on weaning Marty off his oxygen and completely removed it last night to see how he does. From what the nurse shared he had a great night off it and only had one spell early this morning where he dipped into the 50s and came back up. She did say they were about to bag him again before he came around on his own.

We will see how he does off oxygen over the next few days and if he struggles the Dr talked about him potentially coming home on it - fingers crossed that’s not the case and we are maturing enough to continue on the right path.

Head ultrasound today came back normal and we are due for another eye exam early next week.

Thank you for following our NICU journey and we hope everyone has a great week and a Happy Valentines Day❤️
