Journal entry by Whitney Stevenson —
Mom made it through her first and most intensive surgery on her spinal injury (fractured C6-7) on Tuesday, August 3rd. Her spinal fusion fusion went smoothly with no complications, praise God! We are so thankful to have an amazing team of surgeons and medical staff operating on mom and taking great care of her. She is in the care of the best of the best and we are so thankful for the amazing team at Anschutz. The Neurosurgeon said she will regain mobility in her neck which is incredible news because initially we were told that she would not move her neck again. She will regain most mobility in a side to side motion, and some mobility in an up and down motion. They did a flush to clean out her shattered ankle and knee injury while she was under anesthesia after the spinal fusion to help prevent infection. They decided to hold off on additional surgeries on that day because it was too much for her body to handle. We are rejoicing that this spinal fusion was a success!
