Marlys's obituary was published yesterday in the Mpls and St Paul Sunday papers.  This was the text:

Marlys J Giesecke, 95, resident of The Gardens at Episcopal Homes in Saint Paul passed away January 18^th due to natural causes. Born in 1925 to parents Reverend Daniel and Eva Jansen in Duluth, MN. Marlys graduated from Jamestown High School (North Dakota), and received her Bachelor’s degree from Jamestown College, where she met the returning GI who would become her husband of over 50 years. She married Ernest C Giesecke in 1947, with her father officiating the ceremony. She is survived by their three children, Daniel (Grace), Randal (Pam), and Sandra (Keith); eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother David D Jansen.

A teacher with a lifetime K-12 teaching certificate, she taught lower elementary grades for nearly 30 years in the St Anthony School District, with a special gift for teaching reading. For nearly 60 years, Marlys attended the former Calvary Presbyterian Church, then New Life Presbyterian Church. She was proud to have served as an Elder, a delegate to the Presbyterian General Assembly, and in the Stephen Ministry of her church.

Service will be held January 26, 2021 at New Life Presbyterian Church, Roseville, MN. Due to COVID, service will be private. Visitation at 10am, Service at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to New Life Presbyterian Church.
