Mark has a new picture to put on his refrigerator door and boy oh boy is it a good one.
It is a picture of Mark's brain. They took it during this afternoon's MRI session at Region's Hospital. After the 30-minute MRI, he walked down the hall for a visit with his neuro-oncology doctor, Kester Phillips, who pulled up the new image on his computer.
"Oh this looks good," he told Mark (and Jim and Chris), pointing to the computer screen and a print-out of the MRI. "There are no changes since your last visit three months ago."
That means the brain tumor has not returned and it means that instead of going back for an MRI scan every three months, he won't need to go back for six months.
So as refrigerator pictures go, this is not exactly a work of art. The MRI is mostly a lot of black lumpy shapes with bits of white and gray here and there. But someone like Dr. Kester can point to this part and that part and say, see, this is really good. This white spot here is just a bit of scar tissue, but it is not a tumor.
So that made May 6, 2024, a very good day in the life of Mark Winterer.
We'll keep you posted.
