Journal entry by Beth Wahl —
Mark had his post surgical follow-up today at Mayo. His chemo and radiation was very successful and pathology from the removal of his esophagus and surrounding lymph nodes showed no residual cancer. He has been off his feeding tube for nearly a month and is learning what he can eat so they removed his feeding tube today. He is still sore and his incisions are still healing but he has been released from the surgery team. He has one final oncology follow-up in Rochester in June where they will do a CT scan so they have a new baseline. Then he will have a CT scan somewhere closer to home every 6 months for 2 years and after that, annually until he reaches the 5 year mark.
It has been a crazy 6 months through this journey. We can’t tell you how much we appreciate each and every one of your prayers, texts, calls, and cards. Hugs to all of you! Your love and concern has been overwhelming and humbling. We are blessed to have you all in our lives. And we hope we never need another entry to this Caring Bridge site!!
