Journal

I know the last couple of posts have been me venting for my and about my  mental  state. I apologize for that. This time, I want to fill you in on my physical status. Don't worry, this has a happy ending. Roughly every 10 visits we (my therapists) need to send in a progress statement to the insurance company to update them on my progress. If I am not progressing enough, they stop paying(because it's not helping). If I progress too much, they stop paying because (I must not need it anymore). Kind of a balancing act. It's a shame we have to play this "game" to help me get better, but this is the world we live in. I have started doing some Physical Therapy in the pool, which we have noticed a lot of benefit from. For my Arm (O.T. - Occupational therapy) they measure the range of motion I can move at each joint of my arm. For my leg (P.T. - Physical Therapy) they measure the strength and endurance of my leg. Currently I have different "rides" (as I call them)  My Walker which I call my  "Highway Ride"(because I can move much faster as long as It's a smooth surface (laminate floor, etc.) the little wheels get hung up very easily on the tiniest of debris, plus It's a little wide for some places. So Sometimes I need My  Hemi which I call my "Off Road Ride" I can't go near as fast (which turns out is better and safer for my walk) Plus it is easier to go up a curb, into restaurants, and ramps. And Of course, my Wheelchair which I call "My Limo" cause it's the most comfortable ride and I don't drive it. Between the pool, the Hyperbaric Chamber, and Lisa ( My in home nurse) who spends 30-45 minutes every morning doing stretches and exercises with me on top of normal therapy. My arm range has improved, my leg has improved enough they want me to go back to "My Off Road Ride" as long as I feel safe with it. Finally some changes I can notice!!I always joke about keeping me honest doing my exercises because I'm a Cheater(Not on purpose. It's just when I try so hard to do my exercises sometimes my Right side will over compensate for lack of effort on my Left side.It sounds strange but Now that I'm on my Off Road Ride, I can tell there is a lot less "Cheating" going on.
