Mark’s Story

Site created on December 1, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Mark and I greatly value and cherish your prayers and support and love!

It was five years ago when Mark was first diagnosed with Chronic Leukemia Lymphoma (CLL) and underwent chemo.  It went into remission about a year later, controlled with a targeted drug.  In the fall of 2021, he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer, stage two.  We were very blessed to catch it that early.  After some complications with his spleen, and a couple of hospital visits, he went through chemo once again in January of 2022, then surgery to remove the tumor in his pancreas in May.  More chemo and radiation during the summer of 2022.  By September, his PET scan showed NO tumor present - this was a complete miracle from God!  He enjoyed a full year of no cancer, but in the summer of this year, his CLL made a comeback.  In August, another PET scan showed pancreatic cancer in the lymph nodes outside of the pancreas.

He is now undergoing six chemo treatments, to be completed by the end of November.

We are both staying positive and going one day at a time!  We are SO thankful for the many prayers from our friends and family!  Your love and support means everything to us!  GOD BLESS YOU!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Terri Waldorf

Hello Friends and Family,
A quick update on Mark's health journey... Last Friday, he had a procedure done where a needle was inserted in his back into the Celsius plexus nerve bundle and Alcohol was injected.  The procedure hurt him tremendously since they didn't put him out for it!  :(  This was supposed to deaden (not numb) the nerves so that the back pain he has would stop... BUT it hasn't kicked in...yet.  Please pray that it does!  He does NOT want to repeat that, but he also hates being on pain meds.
Secondly, we misunderstood the Oncologist when Mark began chemo.  We thought he would only have 3 months of chemo treatments; but because they only do it every other week (2X/month), they need to do a total of 12 treatments, which extends it into February 2024!  That was very disappointing to hear.  He will have another PET scan in November to see how things are progressing - - so maybe you could pray that they will say, "Oh look! It's all healed and we can stop the treatments!"  We know God is the God of Miracles!
Lastly, we want to sincerely thank all of you for your tremendous generosity in providing meals (Sara set up a MealTrain if you would like to participate), sending messages, and visiting!  It means SO MUCH to BOTH of us!!  This is a tough journey, but with friends and family surrounding us with love and support, we are making it through!  All our love and blessings to you!   ~Mark & Terri
