Mark’s Story

Site created on October 9, 2021

On Wednesday October 6, 2021, Mark was taken by ambulance to Aurora hospital in Green Bay for an aortic dissection which went from the aortic arch & included his right carotid artery.  This caused a stroke with some temporary paralysis on left side of body.  Mark was flown by helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee.  After further evaluation, he was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital to receive the life saving surgery.

The nurse by Mark in ICU says no plants or flowers are allowed in ICU. At this time, Mark and Renae have requested no visitors.
Also, in lieu of ever changing circumstances, Mark and Renae ask that we send cards to their home instead of to the hospital. There is no need to make donations to or through the Caringbridge website. Thank you for understanding.

Reflections of the last bit of time…
We returned home Saturday from UChicago late in the afternoon. Christopher and Aubray came to pick us up as well as had brought us down last Monday. We don’t know what we would do without them.
Mark is extremely wiped out after the long trip home. This has been his fifth surgery due to his two aortic dissections. We sure are hoping this is the last! My prayer as of late has been for “a calm and quiet life,” at least regarding our health.
He is quite exhausted now and has been having shooting pains on the right side of his head, neck, and jaw, along with some headaches. They explain that the area in his neck where they had to do the surgery is full of nerves which controls things like blood pressure etc. I did not know that. They did not think they cut any of the nerves though or he would have very different symptoms they said so we are really hoping that these things resolve!
My poor guy, he has been through so much dealing with these life-threatening scenarios time and again. More than the average person his age I suppose……………
I am forever amazed though by his strength of character!… keeping a positive attitude through all of this! He is truly an inspiration to me and always will be!
Mark and I are so appreciative of all of the prayers and texts for us while we were up in the hospital, and also the gifts and cards. We love you all.
I too am so thankful to have him here at home with me right now!❤️
