Mark’s Story

Site created on February 10, 2019

Mark had a stroke at the end of January and is on the long road to recovery. He has really enjoyed all the visitors!

Thank you to everyone who has been visiting dad and keeping his spirits up for this long road. His rehab schedule will be intensive so we've put together a calendar for people to sign up to visit him in during his downtime. Please see the "Ways to Help"  task planner calendar and sign up if you're able to plan a visit! (Blue Building Knapp Rehab 3rd Floor Room 330)

Newest Update

Journal entry by Carrie Mahowald wolynski

Hello All!

We hope you all are enjoying Summer! We just wanted to give another update since it's been a while...

Dad has been settling in Abiitan in Downtown Minneapolis (428 South 2nd Street, unit 240, Minneapolis 55401). He is getting PT/OT and Speech therapies weekly and we have started Swim class back at Courage Kenny. He's been making a lot of progress moving himself around in his wheelchair and sitting up but is discouraged by a few set backs including a peg site infection and now some heel pressure sores which are putting some of the therapies on hold. Hopefully they are just temporary.

We wanted to thank you all again for all of your support over these long months. There is a great restaurant downstairs and coffee shop Smith and Porter (www.smith-porter.com/menu/smith-and-porter) that Dad loves to bring visitors to for meals if anyone is interested!

Soren and I will both be out of town next week Aug 3-11 so if any of you are free to stop by a visit that would be great! There are also a lot of activities that Abiitan offers that you can join in with Dad!

Let us know if you have any questions,
Thanks again,
Carrie and Soren
